Chinese AI company Zhipu is reportedly considering shifting its planned IPO to Hong Kong. This move would add to the growing dealmaking activity in the Hong Kong market. Zhipu, a startup developing the GLM series of language models, has emerged as a frontrunner in China's AI race, rivalling companies like Moonshot AI and competing with tech giants such as ByteDance and Alibaba.
The company's GLM4 model is claimed to surpass OpenAI's GPT-4 on several benchmarks. Zhipu has also open-sourced its GLM series models, including the 32B and 9B versions. The GLM-Z1-32B-0414 model reportedly matches the performance of DeepSeek-R1 at a fraction of the operational cost. Zhipu's potential IPO could pave the way for other Chinese tech startups seeking public listings.
