AI Agents Get Standardised

AI Agents Get Standardised

9 December 2025

The Linux Foundation has launched the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) to standardise AI agent technology. Founding members Anthropic, Block, and OpenAI are contributing key projects: Anthropic's Model Context Protocol (MCP), Block's Goose, and OpenAI's AGENTS.md. The AAIF aims to foster interoperability and prevent fragmentation as AI agents transition from experimental to real-world applications.

MCP allows AI agents to access tools and data, and has seen adoption across platforms like Claude and Microsoft Copilot. Goose is an open-source framework for building AI agent workflows. AGENTS.md provides a standard for giving coding agents project-specific guidance. The foundation will provide a neutral space for developing agent interoperability standards, benefiting developers and enterprises.

The AAIF operates as a directed fund within the Linux Foundation, leveraging its experience in open-source projects. This initiative reflects the growing importance of AI agents and the need for open standards to ensure their effective deployment.
