What happened
Adnoc introduced over 200 artificial intelligence (AI) use cases, spanning from wellhead to trading, which aim to halve unexpected maintenance shutdowns and improve production forecast precision. The Centralised Predictive Analytics and Diagnostics (CPAD) programme remotely monitors critical operational equipment, reducing unplanned shutdowns and streamlining routine maintenance. AI applications also optimise drilling, production, reservoir management, and subsurface resource mapping. Adnoc, through its international investment arm XRG, expanded its gas deals across multiple countries.
Why it matters
The extensive integration of over 200 AI use cases introduces a significant operational constraint by creating a new dependency on AI system reliability and data integrity for critical production and maintenance decisions. This shifts the burden of continuous AI performance monitoring and data quality assurance to IT operations and data governance teams, increasing exposure to potential system biases or failures impacting operational continuity. Furthermore, the reliance on remote monitoring via CPAD raises due diligence requirements for IT security and platform operators to ensure the security and continuous availability of these AI-driven diagnostic systems.
