YouTube is implementing AI-driven upscaling to improve the viewing experience for lower-resolution videos. The new feature will enhance videos, originally uploaded in resolutions lower than 1080p, when viewed on TVs, the web, and mobile devices. YouTube plans to support upscaling to 4K quality in the near future.
This enhancement will be automatically applied, but the original files will remain untouched, and creators can opt out of the upscaling. The goal is to provide a crisper, high-definition viewing experience, especially on larger screens like smart TVs. This technology uses AI to add detail and sharpness to older or lower-quality content, without requiring content creators to re-upload their videos.
