The United States has formalised Technology Prosperity Deals (TPD) with Japan and South Korea, signalling a push for deeper collaboration on key technologies. The agreements aim to foster joint innovation in areas including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum computing, biotechnology, space exploration, and 6G telecommunications.
These deals are designed to tap into Japan's expertise in advanced materials and robotics, as well as South Korea's dominance in memory chip production. By aligning tech regulations and export controls, the US seeks to reduce reliance on China's tech supply chain. The US and Japan plan to advance AI policy frameworks and initiatives to support a US- and Japan-led AI ecosystem. The US and Korea will work together to ease burdens for tech companies, removing obstacles to data localisation and hosting.
The agreements also address a broader goal of shaping the rules for emerging technologies. This strategic move aims to ensure that future breakthroughs in critical sectors emerge from coordinated partnerships with allied nations.
