Claude Code Goes Web

Anthropic has launched a web-based version of Claude Code, its AI coding assistant, allowing developers to access the tool directly from their web browsers on desktop and mobile devices. Previously limited to terminals, Claude Code now offers a more accessible experience, eliminating the need for local environment setups. Users can assign coding tasks to Claude, leveraging Anthropic-managed cloud infrastructure to work on GitHub repositories via a web interface.

This update enables developers to initiate Claude Code workflows from the Claude.ai web app, with coding tasks running on Anthropic-managed instances. The web version is available in research preview for Pro and Max subscribers. Key benefits include the ability to manage multiple tasks across different repositories, gain insights into repository structures, and accelerate development with automatic pull request creation. Each session operates in a sandboxed environment with secure Git interactions.

Claude Code has experienced substantial growth, reportedly generating over $500 million in annual revenue for Anthropic. The move to a web-based platform positions Claude Code alongside competitors like OpenAI's Codex and GitHub Copilot in the AI coding space.
