SK Telecom is offering voluntary retirement to all employees in its AI division, AI CIC, just weeks after its launch. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to consolidate AI-related units and streamline operations. The company insists this is not a downsizing effort but rather a move to improve efficiency and strengthen on-site AI capabilities.
Employees who opt for voluntary retirement will receive severance packages based on tenure, position and job category. Those who remain may be reassigned to different regional offices. The AI CIC, which employs approximately 1,000 staff, was created to centralise SK Telecom's AI operations, including A.(A-dot), A. Biz, AI data centres, global AI partnerships, AI R&D, and messaging/authentication units. The company aims to eliminate redundant roles and optimise AI-related operations through this restructuring.
SK Telecom aims to accelerate its transition into an AI-centric enterprise. The company claims the voluntary retirement program provides flexibility for employees while respecting their career paths.
