Meta is introducing parental controls for teens' interactions with AI characters on its platforms. These controls, set to roll out early next year, will allow parents to block AI characters entirely or monitor conversation topics. Parents can also block specific AI characters deemed problematic and receive reports on their teen's interactions with AI. While access to AI characters may be blocked, teens will still have access to Meta AI, which will adhere to age-appropriate content guidelines. Meta is also implementing AI-driven age verification to prevent underage users from bypassing restrictions, and applying teen account settings such as private profiles and restricted messaging. These initiatives reflect a growing emphasis on user safety and responsible digital engagement, aiming to create a safer online environment for teens. Meta's AI experiences will follow PG-13 movie standards, avoiding extreme violence, nudity, and graphic drug use. For stricter control, a 'Limited Content' mode will be available, further filtering content and restricting interactions.
