Shipping leader CMA CGM and French AI startup Mistral AI have announced a €100 million, five-year partnership aimed at enhancing customer service in shipping and logistics, as well as fact-checking in CMA CGM’s French media assets like BFM TV. The initiative is part of CMA CGM's broader AI investment strategy, which now totals €500 million. Although explicit financial return targets were not provided, CEO Rodolphe Saade expects the improvements—such as increased efficiency in handling over one million weekly customer emails—to be implemented within 6 to 12 months. This collaboration is also intended to showcase French innovation amid global trade tensions, especially as low-cost Chinese AI models challenge Western firms. Mistral AI, dubbed a European AI leader by President Macron, is rapidly expanding and forecasts a tenfold revenue increase by the end of 2025. The partnership follows CMA CGM’s broader international AI initiatives, including a $150 million alliance with Google, and highlights its ongoing investments even amid strained US-EU relations exacerbated by President Trump’s new tariffs.
