ABB is set to spin off its robotics division into a separately listed entity, with trading expected to commence in the second quarter of 2026. The decision, pending shareholder approval, will involve distributing shares in 'ABB Robotics' to existing ABB shareholders as a dividend. ABB Robotics, employing approximately 7,000 individuals, generated $2.3 billion in revenue last year, constituting about 7% of ABB's total revenue.
The spin-off aims to enhance the focus and agility of both ABB and its robotics division. ABB Robotics, recognised as a technology leader in intelligent automation, provides solutions that enhance productivity and flexibility for its customers. The company's offerings include autonomous mobile robots, software, and AI-driven solutions. ABB believes that separating the robotics division will unlock greater value for both entities, allowing them to pursue distinct strategies and capital allocation policies.
ABB Robotics holds the number two market position globally. The company believes that as a pure play robotics company it would benefit from being measured against its industry peers. More than 80 percent of the offering from ABB Robotics is software/AI driven.
