What happened
The Pentagon secured agreements with seven technology companies—Google, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Nvidia, OpenAI, Reflection, and SpaceX—to integrate their artificial intelligence into classified computer networks. This initiative aims to augment warfighter decision-making and enhance military capabilities. The move proceeds despite cautions from U.S. Special Operations Command head Admiral Frank Bradley regarding AI's role in the “delivery of lethality”. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, a proponent of unbridled military AI, terminated a $200 million defence contract with Anthropic, labelling it a supply chain risk, following ethical disputes over autonomous weapons and mass surveillance.
