What happened
Broadcom confirmed it will manufacture future Google AI chips (TPUs). The company also expanded its partnership with Anthropic, granting access to approximately 3.5 gigawatts of Google TPU computing capacity starting in 2027, adding to the 1 gigawatt supplied in 2026. This infrastructure supports Anthropic's rapid growth, with annualised revenue surpassing $30 billion, up from $9 billion at the end of 2025, and over 1,000 enterprise clients spending over $1 million annually.
Why it matters
Access to frontier AI models will increasingly depend on securing dedicated, long-term compute infrastructure. For infrastructure architects and procurement teams, this Broadcom-Google-Anthropic agreement signals a deepening trend towards custom AI silicon and diversified compute, reducing reliance on general-purpose GPUs. The commitment of 3.5 gigawatts of capacity highlights the immense capital expenditure required to scale AI models and the strategic importance of securing long-term compute resources.
