What happened
A February Gallup poll revealed US workers' mixed AI adoption: three in ten frequently use AI, while half use it annually or not at all. Two-thirds of AI users report productivity gains, with about seven in ten leaders finding it positive versus just over half of individual contributors. Among non-users with available tools, 46% prefer current methods, and 40% cite ethical opposition, data privacy concerns, or perceived unhelpfulness. Job displacement fears also rose, with 18% of workers expecting AI to eliminate their role within five years, up from 15% in 2025.
Why it matters
Organisational AI investments face adoption barriers from employee resistance and skill gaps. Procurement teams and CTOs deploying AI tools must address ethical concerns, data privacy, and perceived utility to achieve ROI, as nearly half of workers prefer current methods. This follows recent reports of workers fearing job displacement due to new technologies, indicating a persistent challenge in integrating new technologies. HR leaders and founders must prioritise targeted training and clear communication to overcome these adoption hurdles and prevent underutilised resources.
