What happened
Lenovo increased prices for its Lenovo Legion Go handheld gaming PC. The 2 TB model of the Lenovo Legion Go, featuring an an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip, now costs $2,849 on Lenovo's website, nearly doubling its initial price of approximately $1,480. The 1 TB Z2 Extreme version of the Lenovo Legion Go also rose from $1,350 to $2,000. This adjustment is attributed to the "AI boom snatching production lines" and geopolitical factors, causing component shortages.
Why it matters
The increased cost of the Lenovo Legion Go handheld shifts unit economics for consumers and procurement teams evaluating portable computing devices. At $2,849 for the 2 TB model, the device now exceeds the price of more performant AMD Strix Halo-based systems. This pricing strategy limits market access for a device with a Z2 Extreme chip, potentially forcing buyers towards alternative, lower-cost options or higher-performance, similarly priced alternatives.
