What happened
Dixon Technologies and Longcheer Intelligence finalised their joint venture, Dixtel Infocomm, on March 3, 2026, to manufacture smartphones, AI PCs, tablets, smartwatches, truly wireless earphones, automotive, and healthcare devices in India. Dixtel Infocomm, initially a Dixon subsidiary, now has Dixon investing ₹7.39 crore for 74% stake, with Longcheer contributing ₹2.6 crore for 26%. This collaboration localises non-semiconductor component production and integrates Longcheer's original design manufacturer (ODM) expertise, following government approval for investments from bordering countries holding minority stakes.
Why it matters
India's domestic electronics manufacturing capacity expands, reducing reliance on imports for critical components. For procurement teams, this joint venture locks in production volumes for Dixon, offering a stable local supply chain for smartphones and AI PCs. Manufacturing leads gain access to Longcheer's ODM expertise, accelerating local production of advanced devices. This move aligns with India's broader push to localise non-semiconductor component production, supported by eased government approvals for investments from bordering countries.
