What happened
Dell's Alienware division reduced the price of its Aurora ACT1250 system by $800, now available at $3,999.99. This pre-built configuration includes an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 GPU with 16GB GDDR7 VRAM and 10,752 CUDA cores, an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU featuring 24 cores, 64GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 4TB SSD. A variant with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F, 32GB RAM, and 1TB SSD is also discounted to $2,399.
Why it matters
Access to high-performance AI-capable hardware becomes more cost-effective for founders and architects. The Nvidia RTX 5080's Tensor Cores and GDDR7 memory accelerate machine learning and AI inference workloads, while the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K's integrated NPU and multi-core design support AI-driven tasks and parallel processing. This price reduction lowers the capital outlay for acquiring systems suitable for local AI development, model testing, or high-performance workstations, offering a practical option for teams to manage compute costs amidst broader GPU market shifts towards data centres.
