Voters Expect AI, Not Utility

11 March 2026

What happened

A survey of 1,004 registered voters, conducted Feb. 28-March 2, 2026, found 87% expect artificial intelligence to change life in the coming years, with 53% anticipating "a lot" of change, a 10-point increase since 2023. Despite this, 53% find AI "not very or not at all useful" in daily life, while 47% report utility. The survey also found 80% concerned about AI eroding trust in news and social media, and 89% demand disclosure for AI-generated content.

Why it matters

The gap between high voter expectation for AI's future impact and its low reported daily utility presents a market adoption challenge for product teams. Procurement teams face increased scrutiny to prove tangible ROI from AI investments, as 53% of voters find AI not useful. The demand for AI content disclosure (89%) and concern over trust erosion (80%) signals escalating regulatory and reputational risk for platforms and content creators. This reinforces recent reports that AI adoption is stalling.
