Nvidia is investing $5 billion in Intel, forging a collaboration to develop data centre and PC products. Nvidia will purchase Intel stock at $23.28 per share, pending regulatory approval.
For data centres, Intel will construct custom x86 CPUs for Nvidia's AI platforms. For PCs, Intel will build x86 system-on-chips (SoCs) integrating Nvidia RTX GPU chiplets. Nvidia's CEO, Jensen Huang, describes the collaboration as a fusion of two world-class platforms, coupling Nvidia's AI and accelerated computing with Intel's CPUs and x86 ecosystem. Intel's CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, sees it as validation of Intel's technology and manufacturing capabilities.
The collaboration aims to seamlessly connect Nvidia and Intel architectures using Nvidia's NVLink. This partnership could pressure rivals and reshape competition in both data centres and PCs.
