Berlin-based AI gaming start-up, Born, has secured $15 million in funding to develop 'social' AI companions, addressing the growing concern of loneliness. Born, the creator of the virtual pet Pengu, aims to evolve the chatbot landscape by introducing a social component to AI interactions.
The company envisions AI companions that offer more than just individual engagement. Pengu, for example, allows users to co-parent their virtual penguin with friends and loved ones, fostering shared experiences and strengthening relationships. Users can customise their pet's world with outfits, accessories and wallpapers. Mini-games and rewards further enrich the Pengu's life.
Born's approach recognises the potential of AI to create meaningful connections and combat social isolation. By focusing on social interaction, the company aims to create AI companions that enhance users' lives and provide a sense of belonging.
