IBM has announced its new Power11 data centre chips and servers, designed for improved power efficiency and simplified AI deployment. The Power11 chips mark the first major update to IBM's 'Power' line since 2020 and will be available from July 25. These chips are aimed at sectors like finance, manufacturing and healthcare, competing with Intel and AMD.
The Power11 systems are designed for high reliability and security, with no planned downtime for software updates and an average of just 30 seconds of unplanned downtime annually. They can also detect and respond to ransomware attacks within a minute. IBM plans to integrate Power11 with its Spyre AI chip in Q4 2025, focusing on simplifying AI inference for business applications. This integration aims to accelerate business tasks by enabling seamless AI integration for real-time decision-making.
IBM is focusing on AI inference rather than competing with Nvidia in AI training. The company aims to provide practical AI solutions for enterprises undergoing digital transformation.
