FuriosaAI, a South Korean semiconductor start-up, has secured $125 million in funding to boost the production of its AI chip. The company aims to challenge Nvidia in the AI computing landscape. This Series C bridge funding round highlights the increasing demand for efficient AI infrastructure.
The funding will accelerate the mass production of FuriosaAI's RNGD AI accelerator, which has demonstrated impressive performance against GPUs. LG AI Research has already adopted the RNGD chip, reporting a 2.25x improvement in LLM inference performance per watt. The company is also using the funds to develop its next-generation chip.
FuriosaAI has strengthened its leadership team with the addition of Jeehoon Kang as Chief Research Officer and Youngjin Cho as Vice President of Hardware. Since its founding in 2017, FuriosaAI has raised a total of $246 million and is currently valued at $735 million.
