ChatGPT Adds 'Record Mode'

ChatGPT Adds 'Record Mode'

18 July 2025

OpenAI has launched 'Record Mode' for ChatGPT Plus subscribers using macOS. This feature enables users to record audio directly within the ChatGPT desktop application, facilitating note-taking and meeting summarisation. Record Mode captures system audio, transcribes it in real-time, and generates structured summaries with key points and action items.

To use the feature, users must update their ChatGPT macOS app and grant microphone and system audio permissions. A dedicated record button then appears in the chat interface. Recordings are limited to 120 minutes per session. The transcribed content is presented as interactive canvases that can be edited and shared. Currently, Record Mode is available only in English and for macOS, with no confirmed plans for Windows or mobile platforms.

This feature enhances productivity by streamlining audio capture and analysis. OpenAI excludes Team, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces from model training by default, though users can disable the use of their data for model improvement in settings.
