Meta has reportedly recruited Jason Wei, an OpenAI researcher, to its Superintelligence Lab. Hyung Won Chung, another member of the OpenAI team, is also expected to join Meta. Wei previously worked at Google on chain-of-thought research and joined OpenAI in 2023, focusing on reinforcement learning. Chung also joined OpenAI in 2023 and worked on similar projects, with a research focus on reasoning and agents.
These hires are part of Meta's broader strategy to strengthen its AI capabilities and compete with other tech firms. Meta has been actively recruiting AI talent from companies like Apple, Google DeepMind and GitHub. This aggressive hiring approach includes substantial compensation packages, allegedly offering up to $300 million over four years to attract top AI researchers. Meta's focus on AI extends to various applications, including social media, virtual reality and augmented reality.
