CoreWeave plans to invest up to $6 billion in a new data centre in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to expand its AI computing capacity in the US. The facility will initially operate at 100 megawatts, with the potential to expand to 300 megawatts. The data centre, co-developed by Chirisa Technology Parks and Machine Investment Group, will create 600 construction jobs and 175 permanent positions.
CoreWeave aims to strengthen America's AI and energy infrastructure through investments in US-based facilities. The Lancaster facility will join CoreWeave's network of 33 AI data centres, 28 of which are located in the United States. CoreWeave designs its data centres to support high-density computing and liquid cooling.
This investment follows CoreWeave's recent agreement to acquire Core Scientific for $9 billion in stock, further expanding its data centre footprint. CoreWeave also has a deal with OpenAI to provide AI infrastructure, with OpenAI investing $350 million in CoreWeave stock.
