Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang lauded the UK's AI talent pool, highlighting its researchers, universities, and startups as globally competitive. Speaking at London Tech Week, Huang emphasised that the UK is in a 'Goldilocks circumstance' for AI, possessing the right conditions for AI companies to flourish. However, he stressed the urgent need for enhanced infrastructure, particularly robust computing resources, to fully unlock this potential and enable the UK to lead in the AI sector. Huang also announced Nvidia's commitment to supporting the construction of UK-based AI supercomputers and launching a UK-based AI lab.
In response, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has pledged £1 billion to scale up computing power and bolster AI infrastructure. This investment aims to increase computing capabilities twentyfold. The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is also establishing a regulatory sandbox, powered by Nvidia's technology, allowing financial firms to experiment with AI in a controlled environment. These initiatives collectively aim to position the UK as a leading hub for AI innovation and development, fostering economic growth and security.
