Microsoft has unveiled a new AI-powered diagnostic tool designed to transform medical practices. This marks the first initiative from the tech giant's AI health unit, recently established by ex-DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman. The tool leverages advanced AI algorithms to assist healthcare professionals in diagnosing conditions and planning treatments, with the goal of improving diagnostic efficiency and decision-making accuracy.
The AI system analyses patient symptoms, medical histories, and clinical data to generate potential diagnoses and recommend treatment options. It is designed to complement the expertise of clinicians, providing real-time assistance that can lead to more informed and timely medical decisions. Clinical tests have undergone ethical committee evaluations and GDPR compliance assessments. The tool is accessible online, allowing users to input symptoms and receive a summary of potential diagnoses, without storing personal data.
Over 500,000 people globally have already used the tool, including an adapted version integrated into Madrid's public healthcare system, where over 6,000 doctors use it to diagnose rare symptoms in adults and children. The tool streamlines the diagnostic process and directs patients to the next steps post-diagnosis, with plans for introduction in two major Madrid hospitals later in 2025.
