Google is scaling up its AI-driven initiatives in India to combat the rise in digital fraud. The company's Safety Charter focuses on protecting users from online scams, strengthening cybersecurity for government and business infrastructure, and promoting responsible AI development. Google has also launched a new Security Engineering Centre (GSec) in India, its fourth globally, to develop solutions for local cybersecurity challenges. This centre will collaborate with the Indian government, academia, and small businesses. Google is also partnering with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) to increase public awareness of cyber threats. Google is deploying AI to tackle online scams, with Google Messages using AI to block over 500 million suspicious messages monthly. Google Pay has issued 41 million warnings against suspicious transactions, and Google Play Protect has blocked nearly 6 crore high-risk app installation attempts across 13 million devices since its pilot in India in October 2024. These efforts aim to create a safer online environment for users and businesses in India, addressing the increasing incidents of digital fraud, particularly those related to UPI payments.
