Meta is expanding its renewable energy portfolio with a 650 MW solar power deal to support its growing AI operations. The agreement with AES involves projects in Kansas and Texas, pushing Meta's total renewable energy capacity beyond 12 gigawatts. These solar farms offer a fast and cost-effective power solution, crucial for Meta's expanding data centre infrastructure. The projects are located within the Southwest Power Pool (SPP), ensuring reliable grid access. Meta aims for net-zero emissions across its value chain by 2030, having already achieved 100% renewable energy for its operational needs in 2020. By the end of 2025, Meta anticipates adding 9.8 GW of renewable energy to local grids in the U.S. through its supported wind and solar projects. The new solar projects are also expected to bring economic benefits to local communities, including job creation and increased tax revenue.
