Microsoft is set to invest $17.5 billion in India by 2029, marking its largest investment in Asia. This commitment aims to bolster India's AI infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities. The investment follows an earlier pledge of $3 billion, which is expected to be fully allocated by the end of 2026.
The new funding will be deployed between 2026 and 2029 to drive AI adoption across India. This initiative includes training 10 million Indians in AI skills by 2030, with a focus on participants from Tier-II and Tier-III cities, as well as women. Microsoft also plans to launch Microsoft 365 Copilot with in-country data processing by the end of 2025, ensuring AI data governance.
Satya Nadella, Microsoft's CEO, announced the investment after meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting India's potential in the AI sector. This move signifies Microsoft's commitment to expanding its presence in India's cloud and AI markets, reinforcing its position in the global AI race.
