Amazon has consolidated its AI efforts under a new organisation led by Peter DeSantis, a long-time Amazon executive from AWS. This new group combines Amazon's foundational model and AI work, the custom silicon division, and quantum computing initiatives. The move signals Amazon's intent to create a more integrated, full-stack AI strategy, aligning its Nova models, AWS internal chips, and underlying infrastructure.
DeSantis, a 27-year Amazon veteran, brings experience in systems design, availability, throughput, and cost management to the role. His background in building AWS's global infrastructure is expected to translate into model performance, cost efficiency, and reliability. Rohit Prasad, who previously led Amazon's AI initiatives, is departing from the company.
The reorganisation reflects Amazon's commitment to AI, unifying its AI models, custom silicon development, and quantum computing efforts. DeSantis will report directly to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy.
