Anthropic, the AI company behind the Claude chatbot, is investing $50 billion in US data centres, partnering with Fluidstack to construct facilities in Texas and New York, with further locations planned. These data centres are custom-built to maximise efficiency for Anthropic's AI workloads, supporting ongoing research and development. The project is expected to generate 800 permanent jobs and 2,400 construction jobs, with the first sites becoming operational in 2026.
This investment aligns with the goal of strengthening domestic technology infrastructure and maintaining American AI leadership. Anthropic's CEO, Dario Amodei, emphasised the need for infrastructure to support continued AI development, enabling breakthroughs and solving complex problems. Fluidstack was chosen for its ability to rapidly deliver gigawatts of power, with its CEO, Gary Wu, expressing pride in partnering with Anthropic to deploy the necessary infrastructure.
Anthropic currently serves over 300,000 business clients and is expanding globally with new offices in Paris and Munich, following openings in Tokyo, Seoul, Bengaluru, London, Dublin, and Zurich. The company anticipates becoming cash flow positive as early as 2027.
