Microsoft Azure experienced a significant outage, impacting various services, including Microsoft 365, Xbox, and Minecraft. The outage, which began around 16:00 UTC, stemmed from issues with Azure Front Door (AFD). An inadvertent configuration change is suspected to be the trigger.
Microsoft is taking several steps to mitigate the issue, including blocking all changes to AFD services and rolling back the AFD configuration to its last known good state. The company has deployed a fix and is working to recover nodes by routing traffic through healthy nodes. Customer configuration changes will remain blocked during this time. Microsoft is also rerouting service traffic to restore availability and reverting affected systems to a previous stable state.
While a full resolution timeline is not yet available, Microsoft expects customers to see initial signs of recovery soon. In the meantime, customers unable to access the Azure portal directly can use programmatic methods like PowerShell or CLI.
