Kayak has launched 'AI Mode', integrating a built-in chatbot directly into its platform to streamline travel research, planning, and booking. This new feature, powered by ChatGPT, allows users to conduct conversational trip planning using natural language. Users can ask open-ended questions and receive tailored recommendations for flights, hotels, and rental cars, all within a single interface.
AI Mode aims to simplify the travel planning process by enabling users to type travel-related questions as they would ask another person. The tool then provides real-time results by comparing data and prices across numerous travel providers. Kayak's AI tool keeps its AI assistant on its own website. Currently, AI Mode is available in English within the United States on desktop and mobile browsers, with plans for wider rollout including additional languages and platforms.
Kayak's CEO, Steve Hafner, stated that AI Mode is the first feature to graduate to their main site, after launching Kayak.ai in April for software engineers to test AI capabilities. He added that travellers are no longer limited to preset entry fields and can simply communicate their needs in plain language.
