Google is set to invest $15 billion over the next five years to establish a major artificial intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This investment marks Google's largest AI infrastructure project outside of the United States. The hub will feature substantial computing power, a new subsea gateway, and enhanced energy infrastructure. The 1-gigawatt data centre campus will integrate AI infrastructure, large-scale energy sources, and an expanded fibre-optic network.
Google's investment aims to boost India's AI capabilities and support the country's growing digital economy. The project includes the development of multiple campuses across Visakhapatnam. This initiative is part of a broader trend of tech companies investing in India's digital infrastructure. Google anticipates spending $85 billion on data centre expansions globally this year.
The project will be executed through AdaniConneX, in collaboration with ecosystem partners including Airtel. It also involves co-investments in new transmission lines, clean energy generation, and advanced energy storage systems to support the data centre's operations.
