UPS is reportedly exploring the integration of humanoid robots into its logistics network through discussions with robotics startup Figure AI. The talks, which began last year, aim to identify specific tasks suitable for these robots. A 90-second video posted by Figure AI in February showcased a 5-foot-6-inch robot sorting parcels, hinting at potential applications within UPS's operations. Figure AI, which has been in talks to raise $1.5 billion at a $39.5 billion valuation, is leveraging AI advancements to develop human-like robots.
UPS has been increasing its automation efforts, deploying robotic arms and AI-driven software in its Velocity facilities, and partnering with Dexterity Inc. for robots with human-like finesse. While UPS has declined to comment on specific vendor partnerships, it acknowledges exploring various technologies, including robotics. The potential deployment of Figure AI's robots could further enhance UPS's automation capabilities and streamline its logistics processes, although some have questioned the extent of Figure AI's existing partnerships.
