Meta Launches AI App

29 April 2025

Meta has launched a standalone AI application to rival OpenAI's ChatGPT. The app, powered by Meta's Llama 4 model, aims to provide users with a personal AI assistant accessible primarily through voice conversations. CEO Mark Zuckerberg envisions the app learning user preferences across Meta's platforms to offer tailored interactions.

The Meta AI app incorporates a social feed where users can view AI-generated content from others, fostering a community-driven experience. It also replaces Meta View as the companion app for Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, enabling seamless interaction across devices. The app features a 'full-duplex' AI voice mode for natural conversations, currently available in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Meta is betting big, aiming for its AI assistant to reach over a billion users, leveraging its existing user base of 700 million monthly active users across its apps.
