What happened

Mihir Maroju launched "Your AI Slop Bores Me" (YASBM), a website where humans role-play as AI, fulfilling creative requests for tokens within strict time limits. The platform, designed with a lo-fi 1990s web aesthetic, has attracted approximately one million unique visitors and over 25,000 Discord members, per Maroju. Following viral exposure that caused server issues, a volunteer team of nine now manages the site and moderation, requiring users to confirm human identity.

Why it matters

The emergence of YASBM demonstrates a user-driven pushback against generative AI's output, shifting the perceived value of "amateurish" human-created content. For product teams developing AI-powered creative tools, this indicates a potential market preference for authenticity and human connection over polished, machine-generated perfection. This trend challenges the assumption that efficiency and scale alone drive user engagement in creative domains.

AI generated content may differ from the original.
