What happened
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh launched "SUJVIKA," an AI-driven Biotech Product Data Portal, on February 24, coinciding with the Department of Biotechnology's 40th Foundation Day. Developed with industry partner ABLE, SUJVIKA provides authenticated biotechnology product import data in a structured format. The portal offers sector-wise insights into biochemical products and industrial enzymes, enabling identification of high-value imports, assessment of import dependency, and prioritisation of indigenisation and R&D efforts. India's bioeconomy grew from $10 billion in 2014 to $165.7 billion in 2024.
Why it matters
SUJVIKA's authenticated import data provides procurement teams and R&D divisions with critical intelligence to de-risk supply chains. By identifying high-value, high-volume import dependencies, the portal enables targeted indigenisation, reducing exposure to geopolitical supply disruptions and cost volatility. This mechanism offers founders and investors clear market gaps for domestic biomanufacturing, aligning with India's $1 trillion bioeconomy target. CTOs and architects can apply this data for strategic technology investment, prioritising local development over foreign reliance.
