Apple unveils 'Intelligence' AI

9 September 2025

Apple has launched Apple Intelligence, integrating generative AI into its core apps to enhance existing features. This system, designed to be a personal intelligence platform, leverages on-device processing and cloud compute for tasks like text and image generation. It aims to provide practical AI tools across iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.

Apple Intelligence powers new writing tools for proofreading, tone adjustment, and summarisation in various apps. It also enhances communication with priority notifications and intelligent filtering. The Photos app gains features like object removal and memory movie creation. Visual Intelligence extends to the screen, enabling users to search and interact with content. Siri gets smarter with improved understanding and integration with third-party apps.

Developers can integrate Apple Intelligence features into their apps using App Intents and the Foundation Models framework. This allows for building intelligent experiences with capabilities like text extraction and summarisation. Apple is emphasising privacy with on-device models and Private Cloud Compute. The system will be available on select devices, including the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the iPhone 16 lineup.
