Ola's AI venture, Krutrim, has undertaken a third round of layoffs, primarily affecting its linguistics team, as part of a broader restructuring effort. The company aims to create leaner and more agile teams as it continues to develop its AI platform. This move follows previous workforce reductions and leadership exits, resulting in over 200 departures.
The restructuring occurs as Krutrim focuses on building its Krutrim 3 LLM, a large language model with multibillion parameters. The company states that these changes align with evolving business priorities. Krutrim had previously launched its AI assistant, Kruti, after which a significant portion of training was completed, reducing the need for a large linguistics team.
Krutrim's strategic realignment reflects a broader trend in the AI industry, where companies are adjusting their workforce to match evolving technical requirements and market demands. The company previously secured unicorn status after a $50 million investment and has announced plans for significant investments in AI development.
