Bedrock Robotics, founded by former Waymo engineers, has emerged from stealth mode with $80 million in seed and Series A funding. The company is focused on developing autonomous systems for the construction industry, which faces increasing demand and a shrinking workforce. Rather than creating new machinery, Bedrock Robotics upgrades existing heavy equipment with hardware and software to enable autonomous operation.
Bedrock's technology aims to improve the cost, speed, safety and predictability of construction projects. The company's system integrates with existing machines, empowering them with advanced capabilities. This allows for 24/7 operation, faster project completion, and increased profitability. Bedrock Robotics plans to begin initial operator-less deployments in 2026.
The funding rounds were led by 8VC and Eclipse, with participation from Two Sigma Ventures, Nvidia's NVentures, and others. This investment will support the growth of Bedrock's engineering, operations, and commercialisation teams. Bedrock is currently testing its autonomous excavators in Arizona, Texas, and Arkansas, with plans to expand to customer sites soon.
