Snap has launched a standalone Lens Studio iOS app and web tool, expanding access to AR lens creation for all users. Previously limited to a desktop application for professional developers, the new tools enable users of any skill level to generate AI effects, incorporate Bitmoji, and utilise trending templates to create personalised lenses.
Snap aims to attract a broader audience to AR creation, contrasting with competitors who are retracting from the AR space. The new tools include advanced features such as a turn-based system and a customisable Character Controller for Bitmoji games. Lenses built with the new tools can be shared across Snapchat, Spectacles, and other mobile and web apps via Camera Kit. Users who publish lenses from the new app will be eligible for the Lens Creator Rewards program, incentivising the creation of popular AR effects.
Snap's move signifies a commitment to fostering innovation and growth in the AR domain, providing both simplified tools for beginners and enhanced capabilities for professional developers.
