WWDC 2025 saw Apple unveil its next-generation operating systems, adopting a unified year-based naming convention (iOS 26, macOS 26, etc.). A key highlight was the introduction of 'Liquid Glass,' a significant UI redesign featuring transparent elements across apps and the lock screen.
iPadOS 26 brings a Mac-like experience with a new windowing system and customisable menu bar, enhancing multitasking. watchOS 26 integrates Apple Intelligence for fitness tracking, while macOS Tahoe gains a Phone app, hinting at potential cellular connectivity for Macs. Metal 4, the updated graphics framework, promises improved game performance with features like frame interpolation and denoising.
Developer betas are available now, with public betas expected in July. The redesigned first-party apps, including Camera, Safari, and Phone, aim for a simplified user experience. The Camera app, for example, now has separate tabs for video and photo, plus a streamlined toolbar.
