Researchers have created an AI model capable of predicting acute malnutrition in Kenyan children up to six months ahead of time. The project saw collaboration between the USC School of Advanced Computing, the Keck School of Medicine, Microsoft AI for Good Lab, Amref Health Africa, and Kenya's Ministry of Health.
The AI's predictive capabilities offer a significant advantage for proactive interventions. Early warnings allow for the timely allocation of resources and implementation of preventative measures, potentially mitigating the impact of malnutrition on vulnerable populations.
