ChatGPT Enables Group Collaboration

ChatGPT Enables Group Collaboration

What happened

ChatGPT introduced a group chat feature, enabling multiple users to collaborate with the AI in a single conversation. This shared environment allows the AI to assist in searching, summarising, and generating content. Users initiate chats via an invite link, setting up profiles with names, usernames, and photos. Powered by GPT-5.1 Auto, the system dynamically selects models based on task. ChatGPT monitors conversations, deciding when to respond, though direct prompting is also possible. Functionalities include search, image creation, file uploads, and voice input, available across Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans.

Why it matters

The introduction of group chat functionality, where AI monitors conversations and dynamically selects models, reduces visibility into the specific AI model engaged and the direct user prompt for every AI interaction. This increases exposure for platform operators and IT security teams to AI-generated content lacking clear, single-user prompt attribution within a multi-user context. Furthermore, the shared environment, supporting file uploads and voice input, raises due diligence requirements for compliance and procurement regarding data handling, privacy, and content moderation in collaborative AI interactions.
