ChatGPT has launched a group chat feature, enabling multiple users to collaborate with the AI in a single conversation. This shared environment allows friends, family, or co-workers to plan events, make decisions, and work through ideas together, with ChatGPT assisting in searching, summarising, and generating content.
To initiate a group chat, users can tap the people icon and share an invite link. Participants can then set up profiles with names, usernames, and photos. The group chats are powered by GPT-5.1 Auto, which selects the most appropriate model based on the user's plan and task. ChatGPT will monitor the conversation and decide when to respond, but users can also directly prompt it. The feature supports functionalities like search, image creation, file uploads, and voice input.
This collaborative tool aims to streamline group interactions, making them more productive. It can be used for various purposes, such as planning trips, drafting outlines, or researching topics. ChatGPT's group chat feature is available to users on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans.
