Anthropic and Google Cloud have expanded their partnership in a deal worth tens of billions of dollars. This agreement will provide Anthropic with access to up to 1 million of Google's Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) and other cloud computing services. The deal aims to significantly increase Anthropic's computing resources, bringing over a gigawatt of capacity online in 2026.
Anthropic intends to leverage Google's TPUs to train the next generation of its AI model, Claude. The company has cited the price-performance and efficiency of TPUs as key factors in its decision. Google Cloud CEO, Thomas Kurian, highlighted the ongoing innovation and increased capacity of their TPUs, including the seventh-generation TPU, Ironwood.
This expanded partnership reinforces Google's position in the AI cloud infrastructure market and provides Anthropic with the necessary resources to meet growing enterprise demand, deepen safety research, and support international expansion. Anthropic also affirmed its commitment to Amazon, its primary training partner, and their collaboration on Project Rainier.
